A Raven in My Life

Corbin Michael Moslander. Where do I even begin?

He is the youngest of us four kids... but exceeds us all in height (he is 6ft. to be exact). I can't believe that today, Febrauary 4Th, he is turning 16! I really do have memories of him being a baby... a really sweet, chubby baby :) Everyone loved him the second they laid eyes on him. Tender eyes and a tender heart. --Sorry if that embarrasses you, Corbs. But I only speak truth. To this day Corbin is one of the sweetest kids around. He really cares about people, and wants to help out. If nothing else, he always has an inspirational laugh or a joke up his sleeve.

I have missed dearly the majority of the last four years being away from home. When I "left home", Corbin was still a boy at 12 years of age. By the time I get back, he will be a 16 year old young man... on his way to discovering what the Lord has for him in his future. I pray that he encounters God on his own, understands who he is in Christ, and stays the sweet little-est brother I've always known him to be.

If Corbin was here I would tell him:
I love you! and even though I HATE when you tickle me... I always love laughing with you!
Don't break too many hearts, please.
Love God first, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Never quit loving people, and having fun! (you take after me in this... just sayin')

I love you, Corbs! Happy Birthday... and for goodness sakes, stop growing!!

My Life in a Picture...

Here's the long-awaited photo journal. Not the last of it, of course.. but something to get started with! Enjoy :)

The DTS in lecture. Learning about Hearing God's Voice.

Go in to all the world...

This is where we eat all of our meals.

YWAM often = Youth With A Meeting (the Tin Cathedral, where we hold our lectures, worhsip times, corporate get togethers and meetings)

Hanging out in the back of a meeting, Jason, plays with Play-Doh. His parents are from the Philippines but are on furlow from India right now. Their other sons are Johnny and Joshua.
Megan, Danielle, Sarah and Julia...

and Silje inside the Asia Pacific Missions Center for "Creative God Time"

My house!

Our little kitchen and a bit of the living area.

Another look at our living space and kitchen.

A look inside...

This is what one of the student rooms looks like. Four girls in one small room is cramped. and messy.

The entrance into my closet... i mean my bedroom... well, my closetroom.

My lofted bed.

Ok, ok... I need to clean my room. I know.

Hi :)

I share my bathroom with 6 other girls... this is the proof.

My not-at-all-like-a-resort shower. ... Just for the record.

My bathroom sink. Pretty, huh?

Mister Matt Hughes. Head of Maintenance. Working hard at putting together a new dumpster for the base.

Jordan, a staffer who works hard every day in the yard, and Danielle, a DTS student, posing with their yard equipment.

Julia, a DTS student, mowing the lawn. Behind her is the playground for the kids, and the much used volleyball court.

We've attempted to hide some of our "base junk"... however, the shrubbery isn't quite long enough... Mom, I know you would hate this! lol

One of our DTS Students, Megan, reading in the shade.

This is in the back of the Tin. It lists all of the long term-ers that our base has sent out, and to where. It's pretty cool!

This is one of the gazebos on the base. Great for quiet times, and getting lots of bug bites.

The Asia Pacific Missions Center. Started by Kevin and Kim Darrough for the purpose of partnering the local church with missions in East Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Some people hanging out outside of Hospitality.

The Hale Koa... where I live :)

This is a common request of people entering homes in Hawaii. It's a very asian thing, but also a way to show respect.

Christ Fellowship- My Every Sunday Fill

This morning in worship I heard a cry to God above the rest. When I looked around to see who was unashamedly praising the Lord, I caught my breath and held back tears.

It was a YWAM friend who recently found out she has breast cancer. She got the news almost one year to the day that her husband- also a friend of mine- passes away after a long battle with cancer himself.

Regardless of the craziness in her life, Kim is a true example to so many people.

Lord, you really are worthy of my praise... no matter what.

To my Mama!

Yesterday, January 23rd, was my mom's 45Th birthday!

Robin Elise Shoemaker was born to Joe and Wilma Shoemaker January 23rd, 1965 in Butte, Montana. Twenty-two years later, her and my dad had me! Their first born. There's a lot more behind all of that, but this is when I enter the story, so we'll start here.

I did a little bit of searching to find out what my mom's name means. Robin means Famous Brilliance. Her middle name, Elise, means Consecrated to God.

The cool thing about this is, my mom really is famous! You may not know her, but I do... and I know for sure that everyone who meets her loves her! If they don't, they're just jealous. After all, she's beautiful, strong, courageous, and cool! Who wouldn't want to be like her?! She sets a great example for woman to rise to their full potential in Christ... if that doesn't make you famous, I don't know what does. My mom is also brilliant! She creates, writes, organizes and cleans like no one I know! She taught me and my siblings when we were home schooled, but she also taught us to be who we were created to be! She's a really smart woman; I want to be like her when I grow up! My mom is consecrated to God; She has built her life around her relationship with the Lord to the best of her ability. By her example she has set a really good, high standard for my life.

My mom has always been there for me. She cries with me, and for me. She laughs with me, and at me. She lets me be me, and that means a lot to me. I realize more and more that I'm like her, and contrary to popular belief, I am very okay with that! She is my light, strength, leader, follower, friend, and mother. I love her with all my heart.

I love you, Mom! Not too much longer, and we'll be thrift store shopping together! Happy Birthday!

This Christmas...

I spent it in Hawaii with Ciana and Joey. Normally all of us would have been home with our families (our moms are sisters), but it was just too expensive this year. We had lots of fun together! They are a huge blessing to me here, I love them!

This Holiday Season I've been thinking things are a lot different than if I was spending the Holiday Season back home in South Dakota. I mean, it's still Christmas... music, decorations, and crazy crowds in all stores. But, there are a few things you would only see here...

A Christmas tree outside... right next to a palm tree.

A truck with Christmas decorations on the front bumper and grill... with palm trees and the ocean in the background.

This is what the locals call a Christmas tree. To me, it's a Charlie Brown Christmas tree...

This window sign is part of starbucks holiday decor this year. I thought it was funny... seeing as I'm in Hawaii.

Hope you've enjoyed seeing a Hawaiian Christmas through my eyes!

I AM still alive... and I haven't forgotten

So I've come to the conclusion that doing a photo journal about where I'm at and what I'm doing is a little harder when there isn't a school being run. They all went on outreach... so now I'm not really doing much of anything worth documenting.

It doesn't help that the week after I posted my Thanksgiving blog, I was laid up with a pretty severe staph infection. Did you hear they think it was MRSA? I feel strong and brave after conquering that one... however the healing process is still happening. I'm down to a bandaid, and I'm walking normal again. Finally!

Anyway, I just wanted to inform you all... whomever you might be reading this... that I WILL resume on the photo journal... it just may be a little here and there... Christmas is just around the corner. I think I shall start there... Stop back after next weekend! I promise there will be a new one :)
